Harford Dominates on Sophomore Night

Eight sophomores honored in a historic season

  • The Short Story: The Harford women's basketball team dominated Valley Forge to tie the record for the most wins in a season in Harford Women's basketball history. Valley Forge was able to keep it close after the first quarter, but the Fighting Owls pulled away for a comfortable victory.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Harford has a rough first quarter with just an 18-10 lead after the first 10 minutes of play.
  • After a passionate speech by coach Seney, the Fighting Owls dominated the second quarter and went into halftime with a 48-17 lead.
  • Dahnye Redd dominated the paint with 20 rebounds and 17 points for Harford.
  • Dominique Walker flirted with a possible triple-double as she scored 16 points along with 8 rebounds and 6 steals.
  • Also scoring in double digits for the Fighting Owls was Daisa Harris with 21 points and Danielle Durjan with 15 points.  
  • The Harford bench also provided some good productivity with Nazje Norton and Mylia Clarke scoring 7 points each, Joy Morton picking up 7 assists, and Nicole Sharpe grabbing 8 rebounds.

GAME QUOTES AND NOTES:
  • Daisa Harris has moved up to second in all time scoring in program history with 1,142 points. She passed Tiffany Taylor who was at Harford from 2010-13 scoring 1,139 in her career. Harris still trails the all time scorer by a wide margin as Capree Garner scored 1,497 points in her Fighting Owls career.
  • The Fighting Owls honored their eight sophomores before the game in an emotional ceremony. Harford will greatly miss the likes of Harris, Walker, Durjan, Norton, Clarke, Therese Gilmore, Precious Palmer and Tolulope Otoki
 
UP NEXT:
  • Harford will go for their fifth straight Region 20 championship against Baltimore City on Tuesday, February 28 at 6 pm.
  • The Fighting Owls host the winner take all title match in the third meeting between the two teams this year.
  • Harford won both of the previous meetings with an 81-52 regular season win followed by a 96-81 victory in the Md Juco Conference championship game.
