  • The Short Story: The Harford women's basketball program was shocked by the visiting Monroe Mustangs in a huge upset that saw the Fighting Owls ticket to the national tournament slip away from them.

HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The game got off to a slow start as Monroe led at the end of the first quarter 11-10 as Harford shot 3-16 from the field compared to Monroe's 5-17.
  • The Fighting Owls got a bit of a spark from the bench as Nazje Norton hit a big three pointer to open the second quarter on her way to scoring 14 points in the game,
  • Monroe's Aneisha Lyons banked in a three pointer to tie the game up at 20-20 with 6:10 left on the clock as the teams continued to trade blows.
  • The Mustangs closed out the first half strong and went into the break with a 32-24 lead.
  • Harford's big guns struggled mightily as Daisa Harris shot 2-12 from the field and 0-3 from the arc in the opening 20 minutes..
  • The vaunted Fighting Owls transition offense was stifled for much of the game, but they finally were able to run to daylight with 10 fast break points in the third quarter.
  • Joy Morton, playing while dealing with an illness, hit a crucial three pointer to take the lead at 43-42 with 3:45 left in the 3rd.
  • Daisa Harris and Dominique Walker scored 10 points each in the penultimate stanza as Harford took a 51-48 lead into the final quarter on the back of a 15-2 run.
  • Unfortunately, everything fell apart in the fourth quarter as Dominique Walker fouled out with 4:11 left in the game and Harford went on to score just six points in the final 10 minutes which ultimately doomed their chances to win a second consecutive district title.
GAME NOTES
  • Daisa Harris led the Fighting Owls with 18 points abd 6 assists, but failed to hit a three pointer in the game.
  • Dominique Walker tallied another double-double with 14 points and 10 rebounds.
  • Dahnye Redd pulled down 12 rebounds, but scored just 4 points on 2-10 shooting.
  • Danielle Durjan struggled to the tune of 1-11 from the floor with 8 rebounds and a few of helpers.
  • Nazje Norton provided 14 points from the bench including a trio of treys.
  • Joy Morton was the only other Harford player to score as she added 4 points and 5 rebounds.
UP NEXT
  • With the loss, Harford will find themselves staring at computer screens on selection Monday, hoping for an at-large bid into the NJCAA National Tournament.
