HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Fighting Owls went up against the host Salkehatchie squad as the mystery team.
  • Harford got on the board first as Julia Gatch hit a lead off single then moved to second on a Samantha Koga bunt.
  • Alexis Valentine singled to left field to advance Gatch to third who then scored on a Lindsay Bowler RBI ground out.
  •  The Indians hit a solo home run in the bottom of the third to tie the game as the scored stayed at 1-1 through five innings.
  • Emily Bowler hit a lead off triple in the top of the sixth and then scored on an Emily Wikane sacrifice fly to regain the lead.
  • Once again the Indians tied the game in the bottom half at 2-2 going into the seventh.
  • E. Bowler again got a rally going with a lead off double to left field and then scored on a Samantha Znamiroski hard ground ball to third that was misplayed to give Harford a 3-2 lead.
  • Salkehatchie threatened in the bottom of the eighth as they loaded the bases with just one out.
  • Emily Bowler was able to catch the runner at third trying to steal home then forced a line out to her twin sister in center field as Lindsay Bowler squeezed the final out to clinch the win.
  • E. Bowler pitched all eight innings, allowing six hits and five walks with five strikeouts and only two runs.
QUOTES
  • Head Coach Kelly Sylvester: "The players came with their values in full action. Played with lots of heart and intensity from the first pitch. They trusted themselves and their teammates family and fought through the very last out."
  • Freshman center fielder Lindsay Bowler: "As soon as that ball went in the air, I knew I was catching it. I was going to do anything I had to do to get it."
  • Freshman pitcher Emily Bowler: "All season we have had double headers almost everyday and this game I figured why not put all that energy into one game; so we did."
