HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Harford started out a little sluggish as the visiting Skylanders forcing goalkeeper Crystal Kline into action in the first minute of play.
  • Jacklyn Barbon, earning a starting nod for the first time at Harford, had some good opportunities down the left side of the midfield including a shot that hit the near side post.
  • The Fighting Owls enjoyed more possession and shots in the first half including a shot from point blank range by Kassidy Webster just 30 seconds after taking the field for the first time in the game that was saved by the Sussex goalkeeper.
  • Harford continued to rack up scoring chances including 10 corner kicks in the contest, however that was offset somewhat by eight offside calls against the Fighting Owls thanks to a high defensive line by Sussex County.
  • That line was finally broken in the 62nd minute when Briana Stabile put in a perfect through ball for Alecia Rotunno who made a bombing run and scored on the breakaway.
  • Sussex had their best chance of the game two minutes later when a shot careened off the post.
  • Rachel Bohli came within an inch of securing an insurance goal when her shot from the top of the 18 yard box was hammered off the crossbar.
  • Ultimately, the Fighting Owls were able to hold on for a tough fought 1-0 victory.
GAME NOTES
  • Harford collected just 13 shots in the game, three of which were on goal, in stark contrast to their game against Finger Lakes a week prior where they accumulated 49 shots with 24 on goal.
  • Kasie Lambert led the team with three shots with Bohli, Barbon, and Mackenzie Forsythe adding two each.
  • Alexandria Adams was held to just one shot in the game despite averaging over five shots a game in her Harford career has held to one shot for just the second time in her 20 games as a Fighting Owl.
UP NEXT
  • Harford will hit the road for a couple of non-conference games in New Jersey next week beginning with Mercer County on Wednesday, September 6 at 5 PM.
  • The Vikings are 1-1 on the season with a 3-1 win against Bucks County and a 4-0 loss at Rowan-Gloucester.
