HOW IT HAPPENED
  • Tianna Swearinger started right off where she left off in the semifinals, knocking down her first three pointer with Adrienne Jones following up with a long range shot of her own to get Harford ahead early.
  • Jones continued her torrid start with a couple of assists and was fouled on a three point shot and knocked down all three from the stripe as she was involved in the first 11 Harford points.
  • Harford's defense got off to a great start highlighted by a Shantel McCray-Cheeks block that sent the ball into another time zone.
  • With Baltimore City making a run and cutting the Harford lead to 4, Destinee McQueen came up with a huge block with Holder grabbing the rebound and once again taking it all the way to make the bucket and draw a foul.
  • Ryan Holder worked through traffic to get a tough rebound then went coast to coast to make a layup to put Harford up 7.
  • Janiece Loney would then knock down a buzzer beater three pointer at the end of the first quarter to give Harford a 19-10 lead.
  • The Fighting Owls defense was spectacular in the first half, holding Baltimore City to just 19% from the field as Harford being plagued by their 16 turnovers.
  • Baltimore City came out of the intermission on a 5-0 run that Holder ended with a big three pointer to get Harford ahead 30-24.
  • Jones, who hadn't made a point since the early goings of the first quarter, swished a three pointer from the wing then made a fast break layup as the Fighting Owls swung the momentum back with a 12-0 run.
  • Once again, the Panthers started a quarter strong, this time with a 7-0 run in the fourth quarter that was halted by Shawnkia McCallum's great no look pass to McQueen for an easy layup.
  • With Baltimore City closing the gap to 46-44 and less than a minute left in the game, a Harford foul sent the Panthers Bailee White to the free throw line with a chance to tie the game.
  • She made the first and missed the second, but the Panthers grabbed the rebound and drew another foul.
  • Dony'e Moses missed both free throws but once again Baltimore City got the offensive rebound. Moses layup attempt was too strong and McQueen pulled down her 11th rebound of the game as Harford was able to hold on to win their fourth straight conference championship.
  • Ryan Holder was named the tournament MVP in large part due to another heroic performance, leading all scorers with 15 points along with 7 rebounds, 4 steals and 2 blocks.
  • Jones closed the game out with 14 points while Tianna Swearinger added 7 in a game where Harford never trailed.
  • Both teams struggled from the floor with each shooting 25%, but Harford's 11-16 performance at the free throw line was a major factor.
QUOTES
  • Head coach Michael Seney: To dominate the league like this again is a testament to the total dedication of my players. Led by Ryan Holder to calm us down the stretch, it makes things easier when you have a player like that. Yesterday, we came out in the third quarter with a different mindset. We did that again today and it was enough to win us the game as a turning point. Adrienne Jones was big, she only needs one shot to go in and then she gets going.
  • Sophomore guard Ryan Holder: "While this is a four-peat for the team, this is the first championship for me with Harford so winning this meant everything to me. It was tough out there, but we kept our heads and we did what we needed to do. Destinee's got a big rebound at the end and that's what got us through. Now we have to keep winning to get back to Texas for the national tournament."
  • Sophomore guard Adrienne Jones: I just knew I had to shoot. When I had an open look, I just tried to aim it right and believe that it was going in. Our defense helped a lot, we made them uncomfortable shooting the ball today and that made the difference."
  • Sophomore forward Joy Morton: This means everything to me. Basketball is my love and I put everything into this game. I am so proud to be a part of the history here and when you get a four-peat; that's something special right there."
