Guth No-Hitter Leads Harford to Sweep

  • The Short Story: The Fighting Owls saw a five inning no-hitter from Zach Guth and seven home runs as Harford easily swept the doubleheader over their conference foes down south.

HOW IT HAPPENED
GAME 1
  • Spencer Smith continued his hot hitting week with his conference leading sixth home run of the year in the first inning with Harford scoring two more in the second inning thanks to a Matthew Shilling RBI double.
  • Jordyn Smith crushed his first homer of the year for a solo shot in the third inning to put Harford ahead 5-0 early.
  • After a Michael Richardson RBI double in the fourth, the Fighting Owls added three more in the sixth with Braydon Parr hitting an RBI triple and later scored on a Richardson bomb.
  • Harford added three more in the top of the seventh with RBI singles from Smith, Colin Adams and Parr.
  • Truman Thomas pitched all seven innings, giving up just one unearned run in the seventh inning with only three hits and one walk to go with eight strikeouts in the brilliant outing.
GAME 2
  • The Fighting Owls quickly got things going again in the first inning of game two with Nick D'Amore hitting out his first homer of the year to score a couple.
  • Nick Delp joined the club with a two run shot in the second inning with Harford adding a couple more in the third without the usage of a long ball.
  • Four more were scored in the fourth highlighted by Ryan Calhoun's three run moon shot and a Michael Richardson RBI single.
  • Harford scored another five in the fifth with Eddie Camp hitting an RBI double to score Delp then capped by an Alex Barker three run home run to make it 15-0.
  • Zach Guth hurled a five inning no-hitter, giving up four walks with 11 strikeouts in the masterful performance to improve his record to 3-0.
UP NEXT
  • Harford will host Penn State-Schuylkill on Wednesday, March 14 for a 3 PM matinee.
  • The Fighting Owls last played Schuylkill in 2016 in a thrilling 17-16 victory for Harford.
