Harford Wins Districts, Earns Spot at National Tournament

  • The Short Story: The Fighting Owls earned their third consecutive trip to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament, beating one of the best teams in the nation along the way. Harford beat ASA (ranked #12 in the NJCAA and were previously undefeated at 21-0 coming into the game) 75-65 to earn their third consecutive trip to the NJCAA Division I National Tournament in Lubbock, Texas. Ryan Holder scored 20 points to lead Harford to their second district championship in three years.

HOW IT HAPPENED
 
  • Harford went on a 23-3 run early in the game to take a 27-10 lead with Ryan Holder scoring nine first quarter points, but ASA came back on a 25-4 run to take the lead at 35-31.
  • Adrienne Jones splashed a three pointer then made a fast break layup on the next possession, but took a hard fall and was unable to play in the second half.
  • Down by one at halftime, Harford played a phenomenal third quarter to get ahead as Destinee McQueen made back-to-back layups to start the second half.
  • Harford went up 62-45 for the largest Fighting Owl lead of the game on a Tianna Swearinger three pointer as she finished with 15 points in the game.
  • ASA made one last comeback attempt cutting the Fighting Owls lead to eight, but Harford held on thanks to great free throw shooting.
  • Towson University commit Ryan Holder scored 20 points with eight rebounds , four assists and a couple of blocks. Another Towson commit Shawnkia McCallum had seven points, eight rebounds and eight assists. Destinee McQueen added 11 points and seven rebounds while Joy Morton scored 10.
  • Head coach Mike Seney continues his astonishing record as the Fighting Owls head coach, having won four straight conference and regional championships, two district championships, has a perfect 67-0 against Maryland Juco Conference opponents and a 104-11 overall record in his career.

  • The selection show for the national tournament will take place on Monday, March 11 with the tournament being played at Lubbock Christian University from March 19-24.
