HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Fighting Owls competed in their second ever national championship game with the first coming 10 years ago as Harford fell to Onondaga CC in 2008.
  • This time around, Harford went up against the definition of a powerhouse as the Tribunes came into the game on a 94 game winning streak with five consecutive national championships under their belt.
  • Harford had fallen to Monroe 18-7 in a regular season contest on April 5 in Bel Air, but this time around it was the Tribunes who got to enjoy the home field advantage.
  • The Tribunes came out firing early with four early goals before Rachel Wilson got Harford on the board from close range on a great feed by Bethany Bishop six minutes into the game.
  • Harford pulled back another one on a great snipe by Erin Dean on a free position shot to make it a 5-2 Monroe lead.
  • The Fighting Owls' offense was plagued by some unforced turnovers, but defenders Cidney Gray and Natalie Neff both came up with some key interceptions to keep Monroe from being able to run away with it.
  • It was Neff who was able to snag the ball next to her goal and start a fast break that resulted in Courtney Poole feeding Bishop for the attacker's first goal of the game to make it a 5-3 Monroe advantage.
  • Dean's aggressiveness gave her another free position attempt which she expertly fired into the goal to make it just a one goal deficit.
  • Brooke Siebert made an incredible 1v1 save from close range for her sixth save of the half.
  • That save led to an attack the other way where Nina Urban was able to feed Courtney Poole from close range for Poole's first of the game as Monroe still led 6-5 with less than 10 minutes in the half.
  • The Tribunes pulled fired right back at Harford with two in a row, Courtney Poole scored her second of the game on a great Rachel Wilson pass, but Harford still trailed 8-6 late in the first half.
  • Cidney Gray won the ensuing draw control and got the ball to Nina Urban who ran all the way down the field, dodged from a defender and scored on a low shot to make it a one goal deficit again.
  • Monroe went on to score the last two goals of the first half and seven more to open the second half as they started to pull away from the beleaguered ladies in blue.
  • Cidney Gray scored from close range on a Toni Grad assist and then Gray set up Poole for her hat trick as Harford was finally able to stop the Monroe run
  • Bishop had an amazing pass to the middle to set up Nina Urban for a goal as Harford scored three straight goals in a 34 second stretch.
  • Cidney Gray scored again just two minutes later when Poole knocked the ball out of Monroe's  goalkeeper which allowed Gray to scoop it up and shoot into an open net to make it a 4-0 Harford run to cut the Monroe lead to 17-11 with eight minutes left in regulation.
  • The shorthanded Fighting Owls suffered a blow when midfielder Kelsie Davis was called for her second yellow of the game meaning she could no longer take part in the game leaving Harford with just one sub for the remainder of the game.
  • After the Tribunes answered with a couple of goals, but Nina Urban responded with back-to-back possessions of grabbing the draw control and scoring 10 seconds apart for her team leading fourth goal.
  • The comeback attempt would ultimately fall short despite a heroic effort from the Fighting Owls.
  • The Fighting Owls dominated the draw control, winning 22 of the 35 led by Gray with seven, Urban with five, and Wilson with four.
  • Brooke Siebert was named to the All-Tournament team with an incredible 17 saves in the championship game. Nina Urban and Courtney Poole also earned the honors as they combined for 17 goals over the two games while Cidney Gray was the fourth Fighting Owls to make the All-Tournament team with a dominant performance on the defensive side of the field
  • Courtney Poole will finish her Harford career as one of the most prolific players of all time as she broke the Harford record for career points with 133 breaking the previous record of 127 points set by Melissa Marczynski from 2009-10. She also finished third all-time for career goals with 100; just six short of setting that mark as well while Nina Urban moves to sixth for career goals with 87.
  •  Cidney Gray broke all-time Harford records, setting the mark for the most caused turnovers in a single season with 44 and the most caused turnovers in a career with 66; shattering the previous records of 32 and 56 respectively. Natalie Neff moved into fifth all-time with 40 career caused turnovers in her two year career.
