HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Fighting Owls came out firing in their second game of the tournament as a lead-off triple by Nick Rowland was followed by Joey Schwartz crushing a home run over the left field wall. It was Schwartz's 18th home run of the season and his fourth in five post season games.
  • Harford kept the momentum going in the bottom of the second as a two-out Braydon Parr triple to right center led to an RBI single by Rowland to give the boys in blue a 3-0 lead.
  • ASA strung together hits in the top of the third and put five runs across with another one added on in the fifth to make it a 6-3 Avengers lead.
  • Harford answered back in the bottom of the fifth when Spencer Smith took a curve ball to deep left field for a solo home run, his 19th of the year, to cut into the ASA lead.
  • Rowland got things started in the bottom of the seventh with a bunt single then raced around the bases on a Nick D'Amore double to left center as the Fighting Owls trailed by just one run.
  • Starting pitcher Truman Thomas went seven solid innings with nine strikeouts before giving way to a perfect eighth inning by Justin Fox.
  • ASA was able to add three insurance runs in the top of the ninth and then closed the door in the bottom half to close out the game and Harford's season.
UP NEXT:
  • Harford will be forced to replace a highly talented and productive sophomore class and will look to reload after another great season in which Harford won their third consecutive regional championship and their fifth in the last seven seasons.
