HOW IT HAPPENED
  • The Fighting Owls went down early as a Bethany Bishop goal was surrounded by five Riverhawk goals including four straight to put Harford in an early hole.
  • After that it was all Harford as the ladies in blue scored the next 12 goals in a row started by a Rachel Wilson goal from Erin Dean's second of three first half assists.
  • The Poole and Bishop show continued to be on fire as it was Bishop feeding Courtney Poole followed by Wilson's second.
  • Poole scored her second of the game just 22 seconds later to tie the game up at 5-5.
  • Brooke Siebert was amazing in the first half, particularly with four saves in five free opportunity chances for the Riverhawks as she racked up eight first half saves.
  • With the score still tied, Mackenzie Wills forced a turnover on a Riverhawks clear attempt and then dished it off to Bishop to give Harford the lead.
  • Nina Urban got in on the action a few minutes later with a great move on a free position and Erin Dean added another one with just six seconds left in the first half to give Harford an 8-5 lead going into the break.
  • Urban scored her second of the game just 13 seconds into the second half followed by Wilson scoring three more goals along with Poole completing her hat trick.
  • Anne Arundel finally broke the streak before Poole scored her fourth on Dean's sixth assist of the game.
  • The Riverhawks started to work their way back into the game, but Urban scoring her third and Wilson's sixth kept Harford ahead 16-9.
  • Anne Arundel scored four more over a two minute period, but it was too little too late as the Fighting Owls held the game scoreless over the last four and a half minutes to clinch the championship.
  • Nina Urban, Courtney Poole, Natalie Neff and Cidney Gray were named to the All-Tournament team while goalkeeper Brooke Siebert was named the tournament defensive MVP with her 12 saves in the championship game and Rachel Wilson earned offensive MVP honors with 10 goals in the two tournament contests.
UP NEXT:
  • Harford will now move on to the NJCAA National Tournament semifinals that will take place at Monroe Community College in Rochester N.Y. starting on Saturday, May 12.
