Fighting Owls Take Down Cougars

Bel Air, Md. – The Harford women's basketball team won its tenth conference game of the season on Friday, defeating the Frederick Cougars 85-53 inside the APGFCU Arena.

NJCAA Div. I Player of the Week Dahnye Redd led the charge with her 22nd double-double of the year while also recording a season-high five blocks.

Harford improves to 23-1 (10-0 Md Juco) with the win, while Frederick moves to 10-7 (8-2 Md Juco).

Turning Point
It was a case of déjà vu for the Harford women's basketball team Friday night. Much like their previous contests, the Fighting Owls did most of their work in two quarters. The middle 20 minutes of the game proved to be that time for the ladies in blue, who'd outscore the Cougars 19-10 in the second and 25-13 in the third.

Redd topped all Harford players with 17 points between the two quarters, while Alexus King (seven), Ayanna Mazyck (six) and Monet Wade (six) damaged the Cougars chances as well.

Game Notes
  • Harford sophomore Elaija Demeza secured her third double-double in the last seven games with 11 points and a season-high 13 boards.
  • Janiece Loney dropped 14 points in the win, with 11 of them coming in the first quarter.
  • Shawkina Mulazim led the team with 5 assists.
  • Harford shut down Frederick on the fast break, allowing the Cougars just two points in transition.
  • The Fighting Owls recorded a season-high nine blocks.
Up Next
Harford has less than 24 hours to rest before they welcome Monroe College-Bronx to Bel Air.

This will be the third meeting between the two teams this season. The Fighting Owls have dominated the Express in both matchups, winning 99-29 on the road and 102-32 at a neutral site.
