Anne Arundel Defeats Harford in OT

Fighting Owls Still Qualify for National Tournament

Columbia, Md. –Anne Arundel's Natalie Sonntag scored 90 second into overtime, as the No. 2 seed Riverhawks stunned No. 1 Harford with a 19-18 defeat in Saturday's Region 20 Women's Lacrosse Championship at Howard Community College.

Anne Arundel goalkeeper Sarah Healy stepped up in several big moments and changed the complexion of the contest. A late first half push by Harford saw the Riverhawk goalie make three big saves, then transition her team into a clear and eventual goal with seven seconds before the break. She'd step up again down the stretch of the second, stopping back-to-back free position shots by Keeley McHugh with two minutes left.

McHugh eventually broke through late to give Harford a 18-17 lead. The lead lasted just 11 seconds, as Anne Arundel's Lacey Hinkle tucked home a free position shot to send the game into overtime.

The Fighting Owls had the first crack at scoring in the extra time after Rachel Wilson won the draw. Harford marched down the field and earned a free position attempt, but Healy made her 16 save of the contest and the Riverhawks eventually forced a turnover.  Anne Arundel then cleared and earned two straight free position chances, with Hinkle connecting on a pass to Sonntag during the second attempt to hand Harford its first loss of 2019.

Harford drops to 12-1 after the defeat. Anne Arundel improves to 10-3.
