Five-Run Fifth Shoots Harford Over Vikings

BEL AIR, Md. – The Fighting Owls overcame a five-run deficit in game two, slipping past the Mercer County Vikings, 6-5, Saturday evening inside the Harford Sports Complex.

A pair of errors and a three-run homer haunted Harford early and left them trailing 5-1 heading into the fifth.

The Fighting Owls bats finally came alive in the bottom of the inning, plating five runs on as many hits to take a 6-5 lead. Ajay Sczepkowski kicked off the run via RBI-single, then later scored off a throwing error and wild pitch. Jack Flanagan's double to right drove home Jack Vignola to tie the game at five, then Braydon Parr followed suit with an RBI-double of his own to put Harford ahead, 6-5.

Hunter Bell (1-0) crippled the Mercer County bats in relief, surrendering just one unearned run through four and striking out five to pick up the victory. Three of his punch outs came in the final two innings.

Harford jumps to 5-2 with the win, while Mercer County topples to 2-2.
