BEL AIR, Md. – Harford picked up a big win at home over a rival on Saturday, taking down fellow Region 20 Division I college Hagerstown, 10-3.
Andrew Sicisnki put the Fighting Owls up early, planting a ball over the center field wall to bring in three. After two innings of scoreless ball, Harford struck for three runs again in the fourth and fifth to take a 9-1 lead.
Brelon Harden's sac fly matched the one run scored via solo homer by the Hawks in the top of the sixth. The Hawks would also strike for one final run in the seventh before Harford secured the last out via strikeout.
The Harford pitching staff was solid over the seven innings, allowing just five hits and three earned runs while sitting down 12 Hawks on strikes.
Nick Hohenstein (1-0) took the win, striking out four in three innings of work.
The Fighting Owls move to 13-1-1 after the win, while Hagerstown falls to 10-6.
