SYRACUSE, N.Y. - After waiting over 1,000 days for an opportunity to defend their 2019 NJCAA National Championship, the Harford Fighting Owls Women's Lacrosse Team stepped onto the field at Onondaga CC and downed the No. 3 Lazers 19-14 for back-to-back titles.
Onondaga went up 3-1 early, but Harford scored four-straight take a 5-3 lead. The Lazers scored two of the next three, but another four goal run put the Fighting Owls ahead 10-5. A man-up goal by 'daga put the Lazers behind 10-6 at the break.
A lightning delay put the two teams on ice for over 90 minutes. Out of the break, the two teams largely went back-and-forth for the rest of the contest. A strong defensive effort by Harford's back line and
Samantha Devorak's 10 second half saves kept Harford ahead by three goals or more throughout the final two quarters. Two late scores by
Casey DiVenti and one each from
Jacqueline Garst and
Madison Dawson put Harford in the driver's seat as the final buzzer sounded.
Madison Dawson led the parliament with five goals, while
Claire Ashburn finished with a balanced four scores and four helpers. Diventi found the back of the net four times and assisted two more, while
Gabby Trzeciak rounded things out with a hat trick.
