BEL AIR, MD - The Fighting Owls came away with a conference win over the 8-4-1 Raptors last night after a scoreless 88 minutes of play, a red card, and a perfectly placed set piece.
Both teams had their fair share of chances throughout the contest, although through the first half Montgomery seemed to take a bigger piece of the possession. The Raptors entered halftime with 7 shots (3 on goal) compared to Harford's 4 shots (3 on goal) and tied 0-0. By the end of the contest Harford's keeper
Luis Marquez would make 6 crucial saves, and the Fighting Owls would capitalize on a foul just outside the Montgomery box.
A total of 38 fouls were called throughout the contest with 18 going to Montgomery and 20 to the Fighting Owls. 6 yellow cards were issued, including a double yellow that sent off a Montgomery player with just under 3 minutes left in the game. That foul would end up being the opportunity Harford needed to find the back of the net. A low driven ball would be played to the near post where the Montgomery keeper was able to make a play, however his deflection was close enough for
Jude Hill to touch the ball over the line and send the home team up 1-0 with under 2 minutes left in regulation.
The Fighting Owls advance to 9-2-3 and 6-1-1 in conference play with the win. Next up they host Monroe Community College on Saturday 10/14 in a divisional doubleheader.
