BEL AIR, MD - The Harford Fighting Owls women's soccer team suffered its second loss of the season last night to regional rivals Montgomery College. The teams last met in the 2022 Regional Finals hosted by Montgomery where Harford advanced by a score of 8-0. Harford now stands at 9-2-2 on the season.
The first half was a similar display of possession and attacking opportunities for Harford that have been prominent all season. The Fighting Owls entered halftime tied scoreless despite having earned 7 shots and 4 corners. Shortly into the second half a foul was called and a free kick was awarded to the Raptors just inside the Harford half. A sailing ball over the back line managed to skip past Harford keeper
Evie Heinlein and into the back of the net, putting the Raptors up 1-0. With only their second shot on goal for the contest, Montgomery would be denied any other opportunities, while the intesity of Harford's attack increased.Â
The best opportunities for Harford to equalize came late in the game, including a thru ball for
Ava Lewis that set her up with a 1v1 with the keeper inside the Montgomery box. The Raptor keeper was able to make the save and deny any response by the Fighting Owls, securing the 1-0 victory. Harford ended the contest with 23 shots (9 on frame) and 10 corners. Montgomery was denied any corner kicks throughout the game.
After one day to rest and recover the Fighting Owls travel to Garrett College for a MDJUCO matchup.
