ROCHESTER, NY - The Fighting Owls women's soccer team traveled to Rochester, NY yesterday to face the Tribunes of Monroe Community College in the East District Championship. The contest was a rematch of last year's district final that saw the Tribunes advance to the National Tournament by a score of 5-2 over the Fighting Owls. This season would see an end to Harford's season in a similar fashion, with the final score favoring Monroe Community College 3-1.
The Tribunes found 2 of their goals in the first half, one off a service into the box and a volley into the near post. The second came from a looping shot from the top of the box just out of reach of Harford keeper
Evie Heinlein. The only goal of the contest for the Fighting Owls would come from
Peyton Long on a great defensive press in the attacking half. She would intercept a ball building out of the back from the Tribunes and push it past the Monroe keeper to bring the score to 2-1. The Tribunes would score 10 minutes later on a set piece to solidify the result.
Harford ends their 2023 campaign with a 13-4-2 overall record. Two of their losses came by the Tribunes who enter the National Tournament as the #3 seeded team in the country. The team graduates 10 sophomores and looks to rebuild for 2024 with a strong class of incoming freshmen, ready to compete for their first trip to Nationals since 2017.
