Mustangs Send Harford Home Scoreless

ROCKVILLE, MD - #1 Monroe College showcased their dominance on the soccer pitch as they defeated Harford with a 4-0 victory at the Tom Bichy Tournament hosted by Montgomery College in Rockville, Maryland. The Monroe College Mustangs improved their season record to a perfect 4-0-0, while Harford Community College fell to 2-2-1.

The Fighting Owls began the match in a low press hoping to ride out the offensive barrage of the Mustangs and play for a close contest. The organized Harford defense allowed just 8 shots through the first half, but it would be enough for the Mustangs to notch their first goal. Monroe took the lead in the 25th minute when Shotaro Kino found the back of the net, capitalizing on an assist from Ryosuke Tanaka. The teams entered halftime just a goal apart.

In the second half, the Monroe College offensive machine continued to fire on all cylinders. Tal Torgeman extended the lead in the 58th minute, with Gun Ha Lee setting him up for a fantastic goal. The Mustangs continued to apply relentless pressure, and in the 72nd minute, Alejandro Silvestrini added another goal, showcasing their team's remarkable coordination and finishing ability. Florentino Gomes Moreira Junior provided the assist for Silvestrini's goal. Just a minute later, Sunao Yamamoto put the icing on the cake, extending Monroe College's lead to 4-0. Tal Torgeman turned provider this time, assisting Yamamoto in finding the net.

Overall the Mustangs would outshoot Harford 18 to 2, with 11 of their shots finding the target. Monroe College's goalkeeper made one save, while Harford's goalkeeper Jake Van Voorhees made a total of seven saves. Monroe College also had the advantage in corner kicks, securing 11 compared to Harford's none. The game was physical at times, with a total of 17 fouls committed, 10 by Harford and 7 by Monroe College. Rex Pearce would manage the only shot on goal for the Fighting Owls throughout the contest.

Next up, Harford heads to Cecil to face the Seahawks for a MDJUCO contest on September 5th.
