BEL AIR, MD - After a two-hour lightning delay and a postponed men's contest, the Harford women's soccer team kicked off against Harcum in a division one matchup late Thursday night. The teams would walk away from their 90 minute battle with one goal apiece and a draw.Â
The first half of the match remained goalless, with both teams struggling to break through their opponent's defense. Harcum College had the majority of the shot attempts, recording 6 shots, but Harford's defense held strong, allowing only one shot. The second half brought more excitement, with both teams finding the back of the net. Harford Community College broke the deadlock in the 54th minute when
Danielle Marino scored, assisted by
Skye Dixon. Dixon was able to break the midfield line of the Bears and dribble into the opposing half, drawing defenders as she went. At just the right time she was able to release the ball out wide to Marino who took a great angled touch to goal. As the Harcum defender closed in at the corner of the box, Marino released a perfect strike over the outstretched arm of the keeper and into the side netting. Harcum College responded quickly, however, with Norka Fergusson finding the equalizer just a minute later.
The second half saw 7 shots from each side, with 6 of those finding the frame for Harford.
Evie Heinlein would make 8 saves on the day for Harford. 22 fouls were recorded during the match with cards issued.
Next up, the Fighting Owls host Essex County on Tuesday, September 12.
