Dundalk, Md. -- Harford women's basketball last night defeated Anne Arundel 101-46 on the road at CCBC Dundalk. It's the first time since November 16, 2019 that the Fighting Owls scored 100+ points against a conference or regional opponent.
Harford (6-5) finished the game with five players - four starters - with 10 points or more. As a team, they had season highs in rebounds (56), steals (25), assists (22) and free throw percentage (14-18, 78%).
"It was good to see the overall team effort, as different people continue to step up and contribute to the team's success," said head coach Marvin Evans.
Madison Nimmo (C. Milton Wright H.S.) led the Fighting Owls with a game-high 31 points (10-24 FG, 5-16 three-pointers). She also had nine assists, seven rebounds and six steals.
Alex Mann (New Town H.S.) tallied a career-high 17 points on 8-for-10 shooting and grabbed nine rebounds.
Taaliah Todd (Barrie, Ontario, Canada) came of the bench to score her 17 points (7-16 FG, 1-3 three-pointers) and added seven boards.
Charlie Henry (Perry Hall H.S.) and
Eshe Knox (Western H.S.) had 16 points apiece and combined for 13 rebounds and nine steals. The 16 points is a career-high for Henry, who scored her previous career-high (15) last Thursday at Harcum College.
Two glaring differences in the box score was bench scoring and points off turnovers.
The Fighting Owls' bench outscored the Riverhawks' 21-4 and Harford turned 37 Anne Arundel turnovers into 43 points.
Harford led 22-16 after the first quarter, shooting 36.4% (8-22) from the floor. They would not dip below 44% in a quarter the rest of the way.
Leading 46-29 at the break, Evans' squad began to pull away heading into and coming out of halftime.
Nimmo scored 10 of her 31 points in the second quarter and another 10 in the third, shooting 43.8% (7-16) from the floor in that time.
In the third quarter, Harford enjoyed its most efficient shooting performance, hitting 11-of-19 shots overall (57.9%) and went 7-for-9 at the free throw line.
"[This team] works hard every day and I'm proud of how they continue to level up on the court," said Evans of his team.
Mann was perfect in the final quarter, making all four shots from the field and her only free throw attempt, as Harford closed out the game with a 24-7 fourth quarter.
Harford returns home on Saturday to host Five Towns College (Dixs Hills, N.Y.), as member of the United States Collegiate Athletic Association. Tip-off is scheduled for 1 p.m.
