BEL AIR. MD - The Harford Fighting Owls women's tennis team hosted neighboring the Notre Dame of Maryland Gators for Friday afternoon match. The Fighting Owls were looking to bounce back from an earlier loss in the week to St. Mary's College of Maryland.
In double matches, the team of
Daniela Aguilar and
Vanessa Avila Padilla dominated their opponents and won 8-2. Harford's 2nd doubles team of
Marie Webb and Tamera Matovic lost in a back and forth match, 8-9. The Gators won the third doubles match to take a 1-2 lead over the Fighting Owls as the teams headed into singles play.
The Fighting Owls made a thunderous come back in singles play as Aguilar and Avila Padilla cruised to vicotry in their singles matches. Aguilar won each of her sets 6-0, while Avila Padilla won each set, 6-1. In the 3rd singles match, Matovic lost her opening set 3-6, but showed tremendous grit and resolve by winning her next two sets over her opponent.
Marie Webb sealed the Harford victory by defeating her opponent, 6-2 and 6-4.
Harford's 5-4 victory was their first of the season with their next match coming this Friday, March 15th as the team hosts Rowan College of Gloucester County.
