BEL AIR, MD - The defending NJCAA D3 Baseball National Champions, RCSJ Gloucester Roadrunners, visited the red hot Harford Fighting Owls for a midweek battle between top NJCAA programs. The Roadrunners came into the contest ranked #1 in the D3 polls and a 10-1 record while the Fighting Owls were riding a 9-game win streak.
In front of several NCAA D1 scouts,
Joey Colucci took the mound for Harford and quickly disposed of the Roadrunners' hitters by striking out the side in the top of the 1st. Harford jumped on the board in their half of the inning by manufacturing a run with a lead off double from
Robert Phelps who scored on a
Joey Pagano SAC fly following an error. The Fighting Owls continued to put up runs over the next five innings. In the 2nd inning,
Ehi Okojie hit a blistering homerun to left, his 3rd on the season. The offense pounded out 5 runs in the 3rd inning, which included a grand slam from
Jake McCarter. McCarter finished with 5 RBIs on the day.
Colucci continued to dominate the Gloucester hitters going 6 innings with 7 strikeouts and only giving up 5 hits. The Roadrunners were able to scratch out 2 runs against Colucci and could not overcome the offensive explosion. The offense added another 5 runs in the 5th inning and would go on to a 16-2 victory and Colucci's 3rd win on the season.
Joey Pagano (2-2, 4 RBIs), Phelps (3-5, 3 runs),
Rueben Livingston (2-2, 2 RBIs), and
Manny Santana (2-4, 2 RBIs) keyed the Harford offense.
UP NEXT - Harford travels to Del Tech on March 13 and heads to Bryant and Stratton College over the weekend.
