Kirsch Powers Harford Passed Cecil

BEL AIR, MD - The Harford Fighting Owls kicked off their home softball season by hosting the Cecil College Seahawks. Coming off their trip to South Carolina, the Fighting Owls were looking to keep their winning ways against a rebuilding Cecil College program in a midweek doubleheader between neighboring schools.

In game one, Harford turned to sophomore pitcher, Caroline HIlyard, to toe the circle. In the first inning, Hilyard shut down the Seahawk offense in order but the Fighting Owl offense exploded for 17 runs in their half of the inning. The inning was keyed by several defensive errors that allowed Harford to extend the inning and open up the scoring. Harford continued to tack on runs in the 2nd inning off of Ali Kirsch's 3-run homer. Down by 20 runs, Cecil tried to claw their way back into the game as they scratched out a run in the 4th inning. However, Hilyard's pitching and the large deficit was too much for the young Seahawks to overcome.

In game two, Harford looked to keep their hot hitting going. The Fighting Owls sent ace pitcher, Anna Sexton, to the pitching circle. Sexton came into the games with a sub 1.00 ERA but Cecil jumped on her early with a run in the top of the first. Harford answered back with 3 runs in the 2nd inning that was keyed by a Hayden Kobert triple. The Fighting Owls added a run in the next two innings before Cecil cut into the lead with two runs in the 5th inning. However, the Harford bats woke up in the bottom of the 5th and cranked out 6 runs on 7 hits. The offensive outburst was led by back to back to back triples by Tonya Marks, Arianna Blum, and Brooke Hasegawa
