LA PLATA, Md. — The Harford Community College men's soccer team dominated on the road yesterday afternoon, defeating the College of Southern Maryland 4-0, behind a balanced offensive attack and a sturdy defensive effort.
Chris Guyot (Sydney, Australia) opened the scoring for the Fighting Owls in the 30th minute, converting a pass from
Otavio Trevisan (Bauru, Brazil) to give Harford an early edge. Trevisan extended the lead seven minutes later with an unassisted goal, sending the Owls into halftime up 2-0.
Harford continued to control possession after the break.
Cristian Lopez-Contreras (Chambersburg, Pa.) found the back of the net in the 58th minute to make it 3-0, and
Samuel Dragunas (C. Milton Wright) capped the scoring in the 81st minute off an assist from
Simon Kramaric (Vancouver, British Columbia).
The Fighting Owls outshot the Hawks 24-4, including a 15-1 margin in shots on goal. Harford also earned eight corner kicks to CSM's five.
Goalkeeper
Fabian Sutter (Stuttgart, Germany) earned the clean sheet, making one save over 90 minutes of play.
With the win, Harford ends the regular season 10-6-2 overall and 9-2-2 in conference play. They have now recorded multiple goals in three of their last four matches.
The Fighting Owls will return home for the NJCAA Region 20 Division I Tournament, beginning Oct. 29. Harford is hosting this year's tournament and game time is scheduled for 7:30 p.m.
Harford is the defending champion, having won the region title last season for the first time in program history. While tournament seeding has not yet been announced, it is highly likely that Harford will take on Hagerstown in the semifinals.
Harford faced Hagerstown on Sept. 16, defeating the Hawks 3-0 on the road. In that game,
Michael Cespedes (Chambersburg, Pa.), Lopez-Contreras and
Kyle Blevins (Archbishop Curley) scored goals, while
Louka Chainey (Quebec City, Quebec, Canada) pitched a one-save shutout between the pipes.
