Women's Soccer: Fighting Owls Drop Season, Home Opener

BEL AIR, MD -- Harford women's soccer lost its season opener at home 6-0 to No. 9 ranked Monroe Community College on Saturday. It was a rematch of last season's district championship that also saw the Tribunes shutout the Fighting Owls.

The Tribunes opened the scoring in the seventh minute of play with a goal by Sam Cipolla. She would score again 10 minutes later to put Monroe up 2-0. Cipolla would score her hat trick goal in the 56th minute of play.

Both of Harford's goalkeepers saw action in the opening contest.

Sophomore Emma Zegers (Bel Air) started the game and gave up four of Monroe's six goals in 39:52 between the pipes. Zegers made 11 saves.

Sophomore Kaylee Norstrand (Bel Air) relieved Zegars and played just over 50 minutes. Norstrand allowed two goals and made 11 saves.

Freshman Macy Forest (Perryville) had two of Harford's four shots on goal, with the other two coming from sophomore Alex Hall (Harford Tech) and freshman Sage Cole (Perryville).

The Fighting Owls remain at home and open Maryland Juco Athletic Conference play on Tuesdays, as they host CCBC Essex.

Harford has won four of its last five matches against the Knights, including last season's 3-2 road victory. Game time is scheduled for 6 p.m.
