Coach Wright enters his second season as head coach of the men’s and women’s cross country teams. Last year both teams were the Region 20 runners-up. Two runners received all region honors and seven athletes received all MD-JUCO recognition. Three athletes competed at the DII National championship race. Three individuals received NJCAA all-academic first team while one received third team honors. Both the men’s and women’s team were awarded the NJCAA Academic team award for having a cumulative GPA above 3.0.
Prior to leading the Fighting Owls, Coach Wright was the assistant coach at Harford of both the men's and women's cross country teams, beginning in 2017.
Wright comes from a distinguished running career starting with Aberdeen High School where he ran four years of outdoor track (Ran 400, 800, 4x400, 4x800), two years Indoor Track (Ran 400, 500, 800, 4x400, 4x800) and two years of Cross Country. He holds top 10 records at Aberdeen in the 400, 800, and 4x400 for outdoor as well as the school record for fastest time in the 400, 500, and second fastest for the 800 for indoor.
He then went on to run at Frostburg State University where he ran three years of Outdoor Track (Ran 400, 800, 400 Hurdles, 4x400, 4x800), three years of Indoor Track (Ran 500, 800, 4x400, 4x800) and two years of Cross Country. Wright finished in the top 40 in the country for the 500 meter in 2010. He holds the top five fastest times in the 400, top 15 fastest times in the 800, top five for 400 hurdles and the top time in the 4x400 in school history for outdoor track.
In addition to coaching, he also teaches various exercise science and physical education classes at Harford. He obtained his BS in Exercise Science from Frostburg State University, MS in Community Health and Healthcare Administration from Towson University, and Ed.D in Education in Health Professions from A.T. Still University.
