Dimitrios Jelen-Joy (’13) was promoted to the position of Assistant Athletic Director in March of 2024.

Jelen-Joy took over in 2019 as the Manager for Athletic Compliance and Student Success. At the same time, he stepped into interim head coach duties for the men’s basketball program after serving as an assistant coach for four seasons. Jelen-Joy was later named the head coach in 2020.

Jelen-Joy went on to lead the Fighting Owls to three-straight winning seasons. This past year, he guided the Fighting Owls to 19 wins and a spot in the Region 20 Division I Championship game. Jelen-Joy mentored seven All-Region 20 DI performers and three NJCAA All-Academic student-athletes.

The Fighting Owls also saw great success under Jelen-Joy in the classroom. Over the last five years, 127 Harford student-athletes were awarded NJCAA All-Academic status. This past fall, a record 94 student-athletes were named to Harford’s Athletic Director Honor Roll.

A Harford grad, Jelen-Joy competed on the men’s basketball team from 2011 to 2013. In his sophomore season with the Fighting Owls, Jelen-Joy became the fourth player in program history to reach the 1,000-career point mark.

Jelen-Joy graduated from WVSU in 2015 with a bachelor’s degree in communications. He earned his master’s degree in sport administration from Liberty University in December of 2018.
