BEL AIR, Md.—After a dismal first half start in which the Harford men's basketball team scored just 16 points against No. 21 Division-I Monroe, the Fighting Owls (3-4) doubled their offensive output in the second half, tallying 34 points to fall, 75-50 to the Mustangs (7-0) last Friday night at Susquehanna Center.
It was a tale of two halves for the Owls, who took a 25-point deficit into the half and came back and equaled the offensive production of the Mustangs, with both teams scoring 34 points in the second half.
Freshman #Lionel Perkins# (Bel Air, Md./Bel Air) led Harford with 16 points, 12 of which came in the second half, and five rebounds, while shooting 6-for-15 from the floor. Freshman #Troy Burgan# (Akron, Ohio/North) contributed six points and six boards, while Kyle Wright led Monroe with a double-double of 10 points and 12 rebounds. Charles Funches came close to a double-double as well, tallying 14 points and eight rebounds while dishing out four assists and shooting 4-for-6 from the field.
Monroe jumped out to a 10-0 lead over the Owls at the 17:09 mark, but a 7-2 run by Harford over the next 5:27 put them within five points, the closest they would come for the remainder of the contest.
Harford shot just 30.2% overall and 23.8% from behind the arc, with dismal 19.2% and 12.5% respective efficiencies in the first half, while the Mustangs posted a .452 field-goal percentage for the game.
The Fighting Owls return to action on Tuesday, Nov. 25 when they travel to Chesapeake for a 7:00 p.m. matchup.
