Harford Routs CCBC-Essex, 6-0, in First Conference Game

BEL AIR, Md.
—Six different players scored as the Harford women's soccer team routed CCBC-Essex, 6-0, on Wednesday afternoon at Harford Stadium.  The game was part of a day night doubleheader between the Harford men's and women's soccer teams.

Freshman forward Lauren Ward (Bel Air, Md./Fallston) and freshman defender Becca Bazemore (Churchville, Md./C. Milton Wright) led the Fighting Owls (2-1-0, 1-0 MDJUCO) as the only players to tally multiple points in the game.  Ward scored the game-winner in the 23rd minute as she gathered a corner kick ball Bazemore and also assisted freshman midfielder Jamie Settle (Havre de Grace, Md./Rising Sun) with the second score of the game.  Bazemore added the final goal of the game with as she bent a corner kick into the net in the 88th minute.

Settle's goal came at the 37:23 mark as she corralled the pass from Ward's header, maneuvered around the defender and tapped the ball past the keeper.

Freshman midfielder Chelsea Stevens (Aberdeen, Md./Aberdeen) followed close to six minutes later with a breakaway goal from about six yards out in the 44th minute to give Harford a comfortable, 3-0 lead at the half.

Freshman forward Tiffany Runk (Abingdon, Md./Kenwood) continued the onslaught as she deked the defender and tapped the ball into the lower left corner to give the Owls a 4-0 advantage at the 57:20 mark.

Sophomore midfielder Sabrina Gilg (Belcamp, Md./Aberdeen) gathered a rebound off a defender after a shot by Runk in the 77th minute and Bazemore finished the scoring with her corner kick goal at the 87:21 mark.

Sophomore goalkeeper Jessica Stumpf (Baltimore, Md./Perry Hall) went the distance for the Owls, totaling four saves, while her counterpart on the Knights (0-2-0, 0-1 MDJUCO), Stacey Shiflett recorded a total of 14 saves.

The Owls outshot Essex, 25-6 and held a 9-0 advantage on corner kicks, with 17 shots coming in the second half alone.

Harford returns to action this Sunday when they host Rhode Island in a 12:00 p.m. match at Harford Stadium.
