CARNEY'S POINT, N.J.—The Harford men's and women's basketball teams split a doubleheader at Salem as the women saw a lopsided 85-24 win and the men fell on a buzzer-beater, 109-107, on Monday night at Salem.

The Fighting Owls women improve to a 3-1 record with the win over the Oaks (0-3), while the men suffered their first loss of the season to the Oaks (1-2) and fall to 4-1 on the year.

Five players put up double-digit points for the Harford women, with sophomore Kiara Reeves (Aberdeen, Md./C. Milton Wright) leading the way with 22 points, eight rebounds and three blocks.  Freshman Alanza Brown (Chester, Va./Thomas Dale) added 16 points and four helpers, while sophomore Brittany Mears (Forest Hill, Md./Fallston) had a well-rounded 13 points, eight rebounds, three assists, two steals and two blocks for the Owls.  Harford held the Oaks to just 17 points in the first half while scoring 50 of their own and the defense in the second half was even more impressive, limiting Salem to only seven points on the way to the 85-24 win.

In the second game of the night, sophomore Troy Burgan (Akron, Ohio/North) led the offense with 19 points, while freshmen DaMonte Vales (Akron, Ohio/Firestone) and Rodney Edwards (Rockville, Md./Wheaton/MC-Rockville) contributed 17 and 14, respectively and sophomore Jamar Cooper (Petersburg, Va./Petersburg) added 13 points.

The Owls trailed, 53-47, at the half and saw that deficit grow in the second stanza, until the Oaks held a 16-point advantage, 88-72 with five minutes remaining in regulation.  The Owls outscored Salem, 35-19, in the final five minutes to knot the score at 107 with three seconds remaining, but the Oaks would sink a buzzer-beater for the 109-107 win.

The Fighting Owls men return to action on Wednesday when they host Hagerstown at the Verizon Center in Washington, D.C. at 3:00 p.m.  The game is part of a college/pro doubleheader which will see the Cleveland Cavaliers take on the Washington Wizards at 7:00 p.m. in their only visit to D.C. of the season.  Tickets, for admission to both games, are available at a discounted price through Harford and fans can purchase them by going to www.verizoncenter.com/wiz/hccvshcc and using offer code hccvshcc.
