FREDERICK, Md. - The Harford men's soccer team (10-6-1, 6-5-1) warmed up for this weekend's Region XX Tournament Opening Round with a 12-1 road victory over Frederick on Thursday. A total of 15 Fighting Owls recorded a point in the win.
The Fighting Owls earned the No. 4 seed in next week's Region XX Tournament, and will host No. 5 Catonsville on Saturday at noon at Harford Stadium. The winner advances to play No. 1 Southern Maryland on Wednesday, Oct. 27 at Harford. The Fighting Owls earned a 0-0 tie with Catonsville earlier this season, and defeated Southern Maryland in dramatic fashion 2-1 earlier this week. Harford is 6-1 in the month of October, outscoring opponents 44-6 in that span.
On Thursday, the Fighting Owls scored at least 12 goals for the third time this season.
Aaron Krauss and
James Tweedie both recorded two goals in the win, while
Jesse Bane,
Ryan Corn and
Brenton Violante added a goal and an assist.
Brendon Cole and
Bryan Carnaggio both handed out a pair of helpers for Harford.
Brent Mooney opened the scoring in the seventh minute from 25 yards out off an assist from Bane. Krauss and Tweedie added first half markers to finish the first half scoring, giving Harford a 3-0 lead.
In the second half,
Jacob Duarte,
Dale Beach and
Matthew Petersen found the back of the net, as well, while
Kevin Webster was credited with a goal after Frederick scored an own goal when the midfielder's cross was deflected into the net.
Carlos Zamora and
Jahlil Gage both added second-half assists.
George Tsakiris and
Andrew Bodt split time in net for Harford. Tsakiris picked up the win, without facing a shot, while Bodt made a save and allowed a goal in the 63rd minute.
