BEL AIR, Md. - The Harford men's soccer team dropped its Region XX Semifinal contest to top-seeded Southern Maryland on Wednesday, 4-0, thus bringing an end to the most successful Fighting Owl season since the 2001 team won a program-best 12 games. In his first season as head coach of the men's team,
Jason Muffoletto guided the club to its first winning campaign in the decade with an 11-7-1 record.
The freshman-laden team scored a program-record 70 goals this season, and collected huge victories over Southern Maryland in the final minute a week ago and over Catonsville in the regional quarterfinals. Before the semifinal, Harford was an incredible 7-1, outscoring the opposition 55-10.
However, on this night, No. 1 Southern Maryland controlled the pace of the game from the opening whistle. The Hawks outshot the Fighting Owls 14-4 in the first half, jumping out to a 2-0 lead. Overall, Harford managed just three shots on goal in the loss.

No. 2 Essex defeated No. 3 Hagerstown in the other semifinal contest, 3-2 in overtime. Essex and Southern Maryland will meet for the championship on Saturday at 1:30 p.m.
