BEL AIR, Md. - The sixth-ranked and top-seeded Harford women's soccer team (15-1-0) defeated fourth-seeded Southern Maryland on Thursday to advance to the 2010 Region XX Championship Game. The Fighting Owls will face Anne Arundel for the title for the third-straight season.
Freshman
Becky McManus netted a pair of goals, including the game winner, and
Penelope Fantis added a goal and two assists in the win.
McManus was assisted in her first goal in the 22nd minute by
Jenna Quaranta. Harford's second goal was set up off the hot foot of
Krissy Czarski. She sent a perfect pass off a free kick to
Alexa Carlevaro, who sent it to the back of the net off a well-timed header through the defense. The assist was Czarski's fourth in as many games after netting just one point in the previous 12.
Fantis assisted
Kristina Rivera minutes before halftime to give Harford a 3-0 lead. After the break,
Beth Lambros earned her 101st career point with an assit to Fantis. Her pass floated over the defense and Fantis raced past the keeper and chipped it into the net.
McManus added her second marker of the game in the 56th minute to round out the scoring.
The 2010 Region XX Championship Game will be held at Harford Stadium on Saturday at 11 a.m.
