Women's Soccer Falls In Region XX Championship In Shootout

BEL AIR, Md. - One of the most successful seasons in school history came to an abrupt end when the Harford women's soccer team lost the Region XX Championship Game in a shootout to Anne Arundel on Saturday. The game went 110 minutes without a goal, and the Pioneers advanced via a 5-3 score in the shootout.

For the third-straight season, the two teams met for the regional title, and for the third consecutive time, the Fighting Owls and Pioneers needed a shootout to determine a winner. In 2008, Anne Arundel advanced, while last season, Harford won the shootout.

Audrey Baldwin finished her freshman campaign with her sixth-straight shutout and 12th of the season. She will carry a shutout streak into next season of 575 minutes. She made three saves in regulation and overtime on Saturday.

Anne Arundel found the back of the net on all five attempts in the shootout. Harford, who shot second, connected on three attempts. Beth Lambros, Erin Lynn and Beth Novak score in the shootout for Harford.

Beck McManus, Alex Kaputsos and Baldwin were named to the 2010 Region XX All-Tournament Team.

The Fighting Owls finish the 2010 campaign 15-1-1.
