BEL AIR, Md. - In a very physical, hard-fought struggle, the Harford men's soccer team (4-2-1, 1-2-1) earned a 0-0 tie against Catonsville (3-1-1, 1-1-1) on Wednesday. Sophomore goalkeeper George Tsakiris notched a career high with eight saves.
The Fighting Owls outshot the Cardinals 21-18, but both teams had eight shots on goal in the stalemate. Harford seemed to have more scoring chances in the extra time, including three-straight corner kicks in the first overtime, but the Fighting Owls were unable to capitalize.
Tsakiris had his best game of the season, making three remarkable saves in the second half. In the 67th minute, a Cardinal forward snuck through the back and seemed to have an angle on the netminder, but Tsakiris pounced on the ball while it was still at the feet of the opponent.
Late in the second half, Bryan Carnaggio sent an almost perfect strike to the back corner of the net, but it nipped the post. In the 101st minute, Denair Mitchell blasted one over the wall but it hit the crossbar. Just moments later, a laser by Brendon Violante crushed the crossbar after it was touched by a defender, leading to the fourth corner kick of the overtime session for Harford.
Harford hosts Howard on Friday at Harford Stadium at 7 p.m.
