BEL AIR, Md. - The Harford volleyball team (1-5, 0-1) jumped out to an impressive start in its home and conference opener, but eventually fell 3-1 to Howard on Tuesday. The Dragons rebounded after falling in the first set to win 16-25, 25-20, 25-23, 25-23.
The Fighting Owls were energized in their first home action of the year and exploded through the gates for a 1-0 lead. Harford attacked at a season-best .214 clip in the first set, collecting seven kills to just one error, taking the lead 25-16.
After the first set, however, the Fighting Owls committed a total 19 attacking errors in the final three sets. Overall, Harford's service errors were a foil, as the team committed 19 in the loss.
Freshman Ashley Dorsey recorded her first career double-double with 10 kills and 13 assists. Dorsey also added three blocks, including two solo efforts. Sophomore Kaitlyn Hall led the way with 21 digs, while freshman Emma Anderson dished out 22 assists.
Freshman Amanda Mackey added eight kills and a .375 hitting percentage while classmate Amanda Barber chipped in with six kills.
The Fighting Owls continue their three-match homestand against Balitomore City on Thursday at 7 p.m.
