BEL AIR, Md. - The Harford men's soccer team (11-2-1, 9-0-1) won its seventh-straight game overall and ninth conference game in a row on Tuesday, defeating Hagerstown (6-6-1, 5-4-1) 3-1 at home.
The victory also tied up the Battle of the Birds competition, Harford and Hagerstown's all-sports rivalry in its inaugural season, at 1-1.
Chris Panian totaled two asists in the win, including the game winner in the 14th minute. Panian sent a well-timed cross to
Carmine Hess for the one-timer.
Bryan Steinour and
Jesse Bane also recorded goals for Harford. Steinour started the scoring with a laser to the upper 90 from about 35 yards out in the game's 3rd minute. Bane pounded home a rebound in the box of Panian's initial attempt.
Andrew Bodt earned the win and improved to 6-0-0 on the year playing the first half
Justin Brooks was untested in the second half.
Harford has a solid grasp on the top seed in the 2011 Region XX Tournament as conference play winds down. The Fighting Owls have two road contests remaining next week, at Cecil (1-6) and at Catonsville (3-6).
