Rivera Scores Twice In Women's Soccer Victory

BEL AIR, Md. - Kristina Rivera scored both goals in a 2-0 victory for the Harford women's soccer team (7-0-0, 4-0-0 MD JUCO) on a rainy Tuesday. The Fighting Owls out shot Howard (2-6-0, 1-2-0 MD JUCO) 24-2 to remain unbeaten on the season.

After a sluggish and scoreless first half, Rivera put Harford in the winner's circle with a goal in the 58th minute. Cella Cerrato's initial attempt was stopped by the goalie, but the rebound trickled across the goal to Rivera. Her first shot was also saved, but the second attempt was the game winner.

In the game's 82nd minute, Rivera put the Dragons away with a nifty goal from Kerri Valladares.

Maggie Shifflett earned her first career victory, playing the second half of the contest. Audrey Balwin played the opening 45, but both goalies were untested in the win.

The Fighting Owls next contest is a special one. Harford will host a Think Pink event on Oct. 6 at Harford Stadium when the Fighting Owls take on Anne Arundel at 5 p.m.
