BEL AIR, Md. - The Harford volleyball team (12-5, 7-4 MD JUCO) earned its 12th victory of the season with a 3-1 home win over CCBC Essex (10-9, 5-5 MD JUCO) on Monday. The Fighting Owls were one point away from a sweep, but pulled it off, 25-21, 24-26, 25-17, 25-17.
In a matchup of the top two hitters in the conference, CCBC Essex's Taylor Franks nipped Harford's
Lexie Roberts in kills, 18-17. Franks leads the conference with 4.27 kills per set, while Roberts is second with 3.95. Franks finished with 18 kills and five errors in 54 attempts for a .241 attack percentage in the loss, while Roberts had 17 kills and six errors in 40 attempts for a .275 percentage.
The story of the night, though, was Harford's trio of hitters was better than CCBC Essex's pair. The Fighting Owls' top hitter received backup fom
Ashley Joyner (14 kills) and
Krysten Turner (8 kills), while Cassidy Keller was the only other Knight to record a kill, finishing with 11. Overall, Harford outhit the Knights, 44 kills to 29 and .200 to .146.
Julua Berg and
Emily Letke paced the attack with 23 and 15 assists, respectively. Three players also recorded double-doubles when Roberts, Berg and Joyner finished with 16, 14 and 10 digs, respectively.
The Fighting Owls will honor their sophomores on Thursday in their final home contest of the year against Delaware County at 7 p.m.
