BALTIMORE - For the first time in program history, the Harford volleyball team claimed the Region XX Title. The Fighting Owls (17-7)were crowned Region XX Division I Champions after defeating Baltimore City in five sets on Friday night.
The Fighting Owls, who already set a school record for wins earlier this season, toppled the Panthers for the third time this season. Harford is now one win away from the NJCAA National Championships after claiming a 24-26, 25-17, 25-13, 25-27, 15-5 victory for their first ever postseason win.
All-American candidate
Lexie Roberts led the way with 25 kills and 12 digs, giving the freshman her ninth double-double of the year. She also added four aces in the win. Roberts leads the conference and ranks second nationally in both kills and blocks.
Two more Fighting Owls tallied double-doubles in the championship victory.
Ashley Joyner totaled 15 kills and 10 digs, while
Emily Letke recorded 41 assists and 13 digs.
Maddie Hewitt also had 10 digs. Defensively, Kori Hawkns had three blocks, while Roberts,
Alissa Buettner, and Letke each chipped in with two.
The Fighting Owls now travel to Park Hills, Mo., to face the winner of Region XVI in the District N Championship on Nov. 3 at 6 p.m. The winner of that game will advance to the 2012 NJCAA Division I National Championship.
