HAGERSTOWN, Md. - The Harford volleyball team eclipsed last year's win total with a pair of victories in the final day of the Tracey Leather Volleybal Tournament at Hagerstown on Sunday. Wins over Baltimore City (3-1) and Catonsville (3-0) gave the Fighting Owls 11 wins on the season, one more than last year's 10-10 squad.
First year head coach
Christy Callahan was able to play all student-athletes in both Sunday contests as Harford cruised to a pair of non-conference victories against conference teams at the two-day tournament.
Harford def. Baltimore City, 25-17, 26-28, 25-17, 25-22
For the second time this season, the Fighting Owls defeated the Panthers in a preview of the Region XX Division I Final, which will take place at BCCC on Friday, Oct. 26. Earlier this season, Harford won in straight sets at home.
On Sunday,
Lexie Roberts had 22 kills, four aces and a pair of blocks to lead the way. She committed only five errors and attacked at a .472 clip.
Julua Berg paced the attack with 35 assists.
Brandi Smith had four kills and seven aces, while
Ashley Joyner had five kills and one solo block.
Harford def. CCBC Catonsville, 25-11, 25-7, 25-19
The Fighting Owls attacked at .410 while committing only three service errors in the straight-sets win over the Cardinals.
Harford stepped up its serving game, as Smith and Joyner recorded 11 and seven aces, respectively. Joyner and Roberts each had seven kills. Berg chipped in with 17 assists.
The Fighting Owls return home for their final two home contests of the year, beginning on Tuesday against CCBC Essex at 6 p.m.
