BEL AIR, Md. - No. 9 ranked Harford women's lacrosse (6-8, 2-5) was unable to emerge victorious despite a strong effort in the first half, falling 16-8 against No. 1 Anne Arundel (15-0, 7-0).
The Fighting Owls were unable to avenge the March 27th matchup in which the Pioneers won easily, 21-4. But Harford was clearly riding a wave of confidence in the beginning of this game after a big win against No 3 ranked Nassau.
Harford was led by a stellar effort in between the pipes by freshman
Maggie Shifflett who finished the game with 17 saves and 10 in the first half. Many of those saves came on close range, guilt edged chances created by a strong Anne Arundel attack.
Sara Lebrun continued to be a potent goal scorer as she netted twice in the first eleven minutes of the first half. The teams were tied at three for a large portion of the half before the Pioneers exploded for five unanswered goals in the final six minutes of the first half.
Anne Arundel cruised to victory in the second half led by sophomore
Mary Milligan who finished the game with seven goals and nine draw controls. Lebrun led Harford's attack with four goals taking her total to 47 this season. Freshmen
Amanda Jones,
Jennifer Miller,
Brooke Poore and
Haleigh Fulco scored a goal each.
The Fighting Owls will play their regular season finale on Thursday, April 26th at 6 p.m. in a home game against Essex on Sophomore Night.
