CARNEY'S POINT, N.J. - Sophomore swingman
Chidozie Omile netted a school-record 40 points in his Fighting Owl debut to lead the Harford men's basketball team to a 91-83 victory at Salem on Saturday.
Omile's 40-point performance topped the previous school record of 39 points scored by
Colby Giacubeno last season against Howard. Omile addd 12 points for his double-double debut.
The Fighting Owls jumped out to an early lead byt head coach Brian Selby was forced to sit three starters due to first-half foul trouble, allowing the Oaks back into the game and trail by just six at the half.
Strong second-half play by
Wyatt Smith and
Byron Hawkes kept the Fighting Owls ahead. Smith scored all 10 of his points in the second half and Hawkes finished with 15 points off the bench.
Shendell Chase's defensive pressure held Salem's top scorer in check and Omile's balanced 20 point scoring halves gave Harford the win.
The Fighting Owls host Burlington on Tuesday inside the APG Federal Credit Union Arena on Tuesday at 7 p.m. for their home opener. Tickets are $10 for reserved seating and $6 for general admission.
