BEL AIR, Md. - The Harford men's basketball team (1-2) squandered a 12-point lead in the second half and a half-court desperation heave to tie bounced off the rim as the Fighting Owls fell, 83-80 against Atlantic Cape on Friday.
The Fighting Owls took advantage of early foul trouble from the visitors and built a 48-36 lead at the half. The Buccaneers then broke the Harford press and scored numerous points in the paint in the second half to chip away at the lead.
A 13-2 run with 10:32 remaining gave Atlantic Cape a 64-63 lead, and the lead changed hands four more times with three ties before it ended.
A triple from
Darius Jackson gave the Fighting Owls an 80-76 lead with 3:06 remaining, but those would be the last points of the night for the home team. A fade-away jumper by ACCC's Shawn Wilson and a straight-on three from Jordan Williams gave the Bucs the win.
Wyatt Smith recorded a double-double with 19 points and 17 rebounds, while
Byron Hawkes tallied 13 points. Markell Hugins and
Shendell Chase chipped in with a dozen and
Robert Konteh added 15 caroms.
