CUMBERLAND, Md. - The Harford women's lacrosse team (0-3) lost a heartbreaker in a rare non-conference game at MD JUCO foe Howard on Sunday, 16-15. The Fighting Owls scored a goal as time expired but it was ruled to go in after the buzzer.
The first half was low scoring, as both teams traded goals and defensive stops for a 5-5 tie. After the break, the flood gates opened for both teams.
Harford took a two-goal lead, but the Dragons fought back to tie before the teams traded goals. The final 30 seconds saw a flurry of goals.
The Fighting Owls scored with 30 seconds left to knot the game at 15-15. The Dragons won the next draw and scored the game winner with six seconds left.
Harford took control of the final draw and quickly got into position for the equalizer, but
Sara Lebrun's rocket that found the back of the net was ruled a no-goal.
Lebrun,
Katie Spence and
Emily Nosek each had three goals, while
Maddie Hewitt and
Colleen Chassagne added a pair.
Maggie Shifflett made nine saves in the loss.
Harford returns home to take on CCBC Catonsville on Tuesday.
