Women's Soccer Stumbles Against Monroe In Battle Of Undefeateds

Box Score BEL AIR, Md. – The Harford Fighting Owl Women's soccer team surrendered four goals in the first half in a 5-0 loss to the #10 Monroe Mustangs.

Harford (6-1, 4-0 MD JUCO) were unable to get much going on the offensive end as they were shut out in their first loss of the season. The Fighting Owls managed just five shots on goal with scoring chances few and far in between.

Midfielder Taylor O'Leary was the standout for the Monroe (6-0), bossing the game from all over the pitch. She scored a goal, converting from the penalty spot after Gemma Crain was tripped up in the area. O'Leary also picked up an assist in the contest. Crain hit the back of the net twice, including the first goal of the game on a mishandle by Harford keeper Madison Smith.  Areli Luna and Ana Rodrigues each scored once.

Smith had a good game in goal despite giving up five goals. She saved nine out of 14 shots on net and besides the aforementioned first goal, had little chance of saving the other four.

For the Fighting Owls, the loss snaps a six-game win streak. They have an opportunity to right the ship in short order as they are back in action Sunday, welcoming out of conference foe Louisburg to Harford Stadium. The game is the last of a doubleheader in which the Men's team will face Mercer County at 11 a.m. The women's game is scheduled for a 1 p.m. kickoff.
