Angela KuhnBALTIMORE - The Harford women's soccer team claimed the 2014 NJCAA Region XX Division I Championship on Saturday. The Fighting Owls earned a 2-1 victory over Southern Maryland with a pair of goals scored in the first 21 minutes of the championship contest.
Angela Kuhn put the Fighting Owls on the board in the game's 18th minute with a shot to the lower left corner. Moments later, the conference's leading scorer
Karley Bush headed her 24th goal of the year into the back of the net off a corner for the game winner.
The Fighting Owl defense kept the Hawks off the board for the first 85 minutes and held strong in the final five to keep it a one-goal contest and preserve the victory.
Ashley King made one save in goal to earn her 13th win of the year.Â
Kuhn and Bush were joined on the All-Tournament Teams by Evie Powell, Brooke Nigrin and Nicole Wojcik, who assisted on the game-winning goal.The win marks the fourth time head coach
Jason Muffoletto has led the women's team to a regional title, matching the 2006, 2009 and 2011 campaigns. Southern Maryland defeated Harford in last year's title game by the same 2-1 score.
The Fighting Owls next travel to the Region XX Champion for next weekend's NJCAA District L Championships. The winner of that contest will advance to the 2014 NJCAA Division I National Tournament.
