Box Score BEL AIR, Md. - The Harford volleyball team (19-5) lost the 2014 Region XX/XV Championship Game to No. 17 Monroe College (35-4) on Saturday. The Mustangs were too much for the Fighting Owls, winning in straight sets, 25-14, 25-15, 25-10.
Tiyana Bumbray led Harford with seven kills while
Lauren Brown totaled six as the Fighting Owls were held to just 17 kills on the morning.
Fabiana Della-Monica had 11 assists and
Victoria Karayinopulos tallied five digs in the loss.
The loss ends the careers of Brown, Della-Monica and Karayinopulos. The trio was a part of the 2013 Region XX Champions, the 2014 MD JUCO Champions and 40 total victories, the most in a two-year span in school history. Brown finished her career with 455 kills, ranking second in school history. Della-Monica's 1,098 career assists is a school record and Karayinopulos ended her career with 625 digs.
The loss also marks the end of the Callahan Era as head coach
Christy Callahan has officially resigned as the Fighting Owls leader to take a position in the volleyball developmental camps alongside USA Olympian Keba Phipps. Callahan guided Harford to its three most successful seasons that saw two Region XX Championships, a conference title and an overall record of 57-22 in three years at the helm.
