BEL AIR, Md. - The Harford men's basketball team (5-6, 0-3 MD JUCO) stumbled late en route to a 79-76 loss at home to Montgomery (3-8, 1-3 MD JUCO) on Monday. The defeat was their fourth-straight and sixth in their last seven contests,for the Fighting Owls.
Harford led by as many as 13 in the first half and held a 44-40 advantage at the break, but the Raptors clawed their way back into the contest between two teams in search of their first conference win. Montgomery took its first lead of the game at 49-48, four minutes into the second half and controlled the next seven minutes of play.
A 17-4 Harford run put the Fighting Owls back on top after a fast-break lay-in by
Jon Warren for a 74-72 lead, but mistakes down the stretch foiled the Fighting Owls. Harford shot just 1-of-7 over the final 3:30 with a pair of turnovers setting the stage for the loss.
Cameron Smith's last-second 3-pointer rimmed out with two seconds left and the Fighting Owls were unable to get up another shot.
Malachi Seney led Harford with 21 points, while Warren chipped in with 17. Both guards shot 7-of-17 from the floor, but Seney was a perfect 6-for-6 from the charity stripe while adding nine rebounds and seven assists.
Hayden Jackson followed up his best game as a Fighting Owl with a 13-point, 8-rebound effort that included three triples.
